For a small, urgent order or a project needing site measurement and installation, start by checking South African suppliers that serve the site location. For planned distributor stock or bulk project orders, compare local supply with an import quotation from China against the same drawing, component schedule and delivery scope. The right route depends on the complete order cost, confirmed availability and responsibilities at the site.
Where can buyers find local suppliers and get a useful quote?
Look for a steel palisade manufacturer, stockist or fencing contractor whose stated service area includes your site. Confirm whether the business manufactures to order, holds the required components in stock, supplies materials only or also provides measurement and installation. A local address alone does not establish stock availability or an installation service.
Include the destination city or suburb and the required date in your first enquiry. Give the fence height, total metres, gate openings, finish and drawings or photographs. Ask the supplier to identify any missing information before treating the quotation as final. A quick budget estimate and a confirmed quotation may cover different amounts of detail.
Compare local supply and an import order on the same basis
Use the table as a procurement checklist. Local supply is not automatically available immediately, and an imported order is not automatically cheaper. Obtain written confirmation for the specific quantity and configuration.
| Decision | South African local supply | Importing from China |
|---|---|---|
| Urgent repairs or small quantities | Check matching stock, collection options and minimum order quantities. | Check minimum quantities, production and shipment timing before considering this route. |
| Distributor stock or planned projects | Compare the complete component schedule and repeat-order availability. | Review the approved drawing, bulk packing, inspection and shipment schedule. |
| Site measurement and installation | Ask whether these services are included and which areas are covered. | Assign site survey, foundations and installation to the responsible local project team. |
| Specification and replacement fit | Confirm actual dimensions and compatibility with existing components. | Approve the connection drawing, dimensions and tolerances before manufacture. |
| Total delivered scope | Identify delivery, unloading, installation and other exclusions. | Identify freight, import clearance, applicable charges, inland delivery and unloading responsibilities. |
| Replacement components | Check stock and availability of individual pales, posts and fixings. | Agree any spare-component allowance and the process for subsequent orders. |
Confirm the steel system against the South African project drawing
Specify the required installed height, pale profile and thickness, head style, rail section, post section, post centres, connections and finish. Include corners, slopes, terminal posts and gate interfaces. A product described simply as palisade fencing may use different dimensions and assembly details.
KUNYU’s published standard W-section steel system lists nominal 2,750 mm post centres, 17 pales per bay and two 2,710 mm box-section rails. These figures describe that system. They are not a general specification for South African projects, and rail length is not the same measurement as post centres.
Custom steel heights and bay widths can be reviewed from a drawing and quantity schedule. Feasibility, minimum quantities and production timing are confirmed for the selected order. If the project specifies concrete palisade fencing, obtain a quotation for that material and system; the steel specifications in this guide do not establish an approved substitute.

What to send for a comparable South African quotation
Use one RFQ package for every supplier so that pricing covers the same fence, gates, components and delivery responsibilities. For distributor stock, list quantities by item and finish. For an installation project, attach the layout and bill of quantities.
KUNYU’s separate palisade RFQ checklist explains the component and manufacturer-verification details. Use it alongside this sourcing comparison; mark unfinished details for review before approving a final quotation.
- Fence height, total metres or bay count, and quantities by component
- Pale profile, thickness, head style, rails, posts and fixing arrangement
- Drawing revision, corners, slopes and gate clear openings
- Galvanising or coating requirements and colour reference
- Inspection criteria and any required product-specific evidence
- Destination city or port, requested delivery term and target date
- Materials-only scope and the party responsible for local installation

What should a South African palisade price per metre include?
A price per metre for Cape Town, Durban or another destination is useful only when the fence specification and quotation scope match. A materials-only export price cannot be compared directly with a local installed price. Confirm fence height, pale and post sections, coating, quantities and the length used in the calculation.
Compare four scopes separately. For a project total, agree how corners, end posts, gates, spares and any incomplete bays are allocated. Request current, order-specific quotations rather than treating a general rand-per-metre figure as a confirmed price.
| Quoted scope | Check what is included | Confirm separately |
|---|---|---|
| Individual materials | Pales, rails, posts or fixings listed by item and quantity | Missing components and the complete system bill of materials |
| Complete bays or fence run | Agreed pales, rails, post allocation and fixing kits | Terminal/corner posts, gates, spares and the metres covered |
| Supply to an agreed delivery point | Materials, packing and the transport expressly included in the delivery term | Freight, destination charges, import costs and unloading responsibility |
| Locally installed fence | The specified fence plus the site work expressly quoted by the local contractor | Measurement, foundations, ground conditions, removal, installation and commissioning |
Put each quotation on the same price basis
Before comparing a rand-per-metre figure with an import quotation, use the same fence specification, component quantities and covered run length. The supplier comparison worksheet linked below lets you record each response and any unresolved difference; it does not calculate or promise a market price.
For a fence-only comparison, divide the confirmed fence-supply subtotal by the agreed metres that subtotal covers. Record gates, installation and other separately priced work on their own lines. If an amount or inclusion is unknown, keep it marked for confirmation instead of treating it as zero.
| Comparison field | Record before comparing |
|---|---|
| Quantity and length basis | Quoted unit: per pale, panel, bay, metre or complete order; record the covered metres and treatment of partial bays, corners and end posts. |
| Currency and quotation date | Original currency, date and validity; if converting currencies, record the rate, date and source used consistently for the comparison. |
| Included and excluded amounts | Fence-supply subtotal and separate gate, packing, transport or installation lines; identify tax and import-charge treatment with the responsible parties. |
| Delivery and packing basis | Named delivery point, included handling, and actual package counts, dimensions and weights needed for logistics confirmation. |
Compare delivered cost and timing before ordering
Compare the same quantities and agreed delivery point. Ask each quotation to identify the materials, packing, transport and services included, together with exclusions and validity. Obtain order-specific logistics and import-charge advice from the parties handling the shipment before comparing the complete delivered cost.
Separate drawing approval, production, inspection, shipment and local delivery in the schedule. A target site date should be checked against each stage. Do not treat a general response-time claim or an indicative sailing schedule as a confirmed delivery commitment.
Request the packing dimensions and weights for the actual order. Confirm handling equipment, bundle marks, unloading arrangements and any spare components. Measured packing records are needed before a reliable loading plan can be agreed.

Request a KUNYU quotation for a planned bulk order
KUNYU supplies steel palisade systems and components through Zhejiang Kunyu Wiremesh Co., Ltd. and associated manufacturing operations in China. South African importers, fencing distributors and contractors can submit a drawing and order schedule for review of the manufacturing, inspection, packing and export scope.
This is an export supply offer from China. South African local stock, site measurement and installation are outside that offer. The selected configuration, quantities, commercial terms and delivery arrangements are confirmed in the quotation and approved order documents.
Review the factory information, supplier assessment scope and batch inspection examples linked below. A supplier assessment describes the assessed entity and activities; any required product-specific certification or testing must apply to the selected configuration. Send the completed checklist with your destination and target date to start the enquiry.
